Very vibrant last year 911E with some great options in final stages of restoration now - break in driving now started.
Beautiful survivor well optioned sunroof coupe that has just completed a restoration and sorting. These final year longhood 911s are some of the best out of all early 911 cars built as they have the most improvements. The 2.4L engine puts out the right amount of torque and horsepower for any type of traffic or open roads. The 911E is basically a slightly detuned S with all the same suspension and brakes. What the 911E has is more mid range power so it is more at home in stop and go traffic or mountain switchbacks, the S is the dominant one on long open highways where speed is the goal. Many Es, like this one, were trimmed with all the same parts as the S such front bumper with spoiler, Fuchs, deco trim, etc. This is the second year of the 915 transmission, a much easier to use shifter than earlier cars.
Purchased out of a local La Costa Country Club bungalow garage from a former CFO of an investment firm. Originally from Missouri, it has been in California for the last 25 years. The car when we found it was in good shape but with a few scrapes and dings wearing an older paintjob. The car had not been driven in a while. It was decided that the car should come apart for a complete sorting and light restoration work done at Vintage Excellence. Chassis was taken down to just the shell, the old paint was stripped off, a few small rust ares were repaired and the car was given a top quality single stage paint. Important to note is this car has never been in an accident and all the panels are the original parts as delivered when new - this means the car is correct and everything is right.
After paint the chassis was re-assembled with all new OEM rubber and a mix of original and new replacement trim - reproduction parts were not used. This car had a dual side mirror option - this factory option put 2 large Durant style mirrors on each door (there was no passenger side Flag style mirror at this time). The entire sunroof was disassembled, cleaned and restored to perfect working condition. Lighting is all original Bosch & Hella, everything cleaned, electrical sorted, Bosch H1 twin bulb headlights were the most deluxe lights available for these cars, this car has "Above the bumper" or "Through The Grill" fog lights - they are a very rare bright Quartz Bulb 118mm lens with yellow reflector - these were a Euro only light. As pictured the yellow lighting is Euro/French spec, if the buyer prefers clear lens headlights and USA turn lenses then we will tailor the car to the buyers specific needs. Glass is original Catacolor factory green tinted glass. These 1973 cars had many black trim items, the USA had rubber rear bumpers for new increased crash saftey, we chose to do a more classy Euro style "Black Chrome" look to steel rear bumperettes with the fronts deleted. If the buyer would like front steel black chrome bumperettes we can include those, or supply the original rubber USA bumperettes - buyers choice.
Interior is 75% original and in fantastic shape, a testament to the history and condition of this car. Only the Recaro Sports Seats, which we did add, have been restored by Auto's International in black leather and the headliner was replaced with a specially made for us correct reproduction part. The rest of the interior is original and in fantastic shape. It was merely removed from the car, cleaned, and re-installed after the paint work. Please examine the pictures to see - original dash upper and lower in fantastic shape, original door panels/pockets/garnish rails, original steering wheel, all knobs/radio/switches are factory original and working, original S trim velour carpet, rear seating is all original vinyl as is the rear parcel tray and quarter panels, this car has retractible seatbelts. The correct hexagonal perforation pattern was found with a special run of ivory vinyl made for this headliner at great difficulty. The seats are genuine factory Recaro Sports Seats for 1973 with correct double locker bases, real leather covers done in the 72-73 proper rough grain shinny surface material - the ultimate early 911 seat! The rest of the interior is sympathetically retained to keep the car very original appearing.
Engines are one of our strong areas, this one was fully rebuilt by Vintage Excellence to original 911E spec with oil system improvements for reliability. Case was inspected, main saddles honed, oil bypass mod done, upgraded SC 4 rib oil pump, new bearings/rings/timing chains/tensioners etc. Crank, rods, flywheel, new clutch balanced. Original Mahle P/Cs were in fantastic shape but we still had them cylinder Nikasil coated to make them new again and last forever - new Gotze rings. Cylinder heads had a full valve job with new guides. The new timing chains are tensioned by Carrera pressure fed tensioners. The MFI pump was put on a testing rig and adjusted, all MFI components serviced and adjusted to perfect working condition. Rebuilt fuel pump and all fuel system serviced, everything fuel has touch has been renewed.
Transmission on this car is an oddity - this was a 4 speed car, yes that is right, very odd. We like 5 speed transmissions so a correct 1975 915 transmission was installed along with 5 speed 915 shifter. The original matching # 4 speed transmission and shifter is included with the car so you get both with the purchase price.
Suspension has been fully restored and serviced to new. This car has Bilstein shocks and struts on all 4 corners - the best, the S alloy brake calipers were restored by PMB Performance. All new bushing, bearings, Turbo tie rods, Ball joints were done and the suspension pieces were detailed to original. A set of date matched 1973 Fuchs 15x6" alloy wheels were stripped/polished/anodized/painted to correct factory look by Al Reed Polishing, the tires are in our opinion the best looking period correct tire - Pirelli CN36 185/70/15.
Vintage Porsche cars in this condition with these interesting options are difficult to find. Price reflects the comprehensive work done, the original genuine parts used as well as the quality replacement parts. Receipts for the build are included and pictured below. At the time of delivery this car will have had at least 500 test & sorting miles on it, fresh oil change with all service adjustments, fully ready for the new owner as a new condition car.
