4spd - I don’t have the trans number on hand
UPDATE - car has a couple mechanical issues, seems most buyers can't wrench so I am doing a bit of work on it. Still available for sale but price will depend on how much I do.
1966 Porsche 912 coupe for sale. Matching numbers, Gulf Blue/Golf Blau, very early 4 screw horn grille car, 3 gauge dash, wood steering wheel, 4 speed, California car, 1 family owned. Restored by my shop Vintage Excellence in 2011. Bare metal single stage paint job very high quality cost around $20k back then, Autos International interior. Rust free car that has hardly been used since the restoration. This was one of the first Porsches I ever worked on back in the 90s, my high school buddy Brian’s father bought this car new and handed it down. Brian used to deliver pizzas in this car in the early 90s when we were in high school and I delivered Kentucky Fried Chicken 😆. It has lived its whole life in West Los Angeles - hasn’t made it out to any Porsche shows so you guys do not know it - totally under the radar for all its life, first time for sale since new!
Here is the deal - I typically spend huge amounts of time reconditioning cars I sell and the put them up for sale for a worthwhile high premium retail ready. I have so many things on my plate right now that I would rather sell this car as is for a good price than do the work. This is a wholesale offer, meaning it’s sold as-is and you have to take it with any issue it has. All the really hard stuff was done by my shop 15 years ago but it does need some things to make it right. If you can wrench then it’s an easy fix. Or a great candidate for a big Benton engine and some personalization.
I’m after the easiest deal not a complicated one. There is no rush to sell it so no need to immediately commit and pay for it - let’s talk. I will be at the lit meet and swap meet in a week’s time.
The issues that need reconditioning are:
Engine - runs and drives but 2 cylinders show more than average leakage, possibly from rust on the valves that were open when it wasn’t driven for a long time.
Leak down test:
#1 3% leakage
#2 40% leakage
#3 22% leakage
#4 0%
Paint - there is one bubble in the passenger rear quarter panel, it could be left as is or a repaired and blended.
A brake system rebuild was done a while ago - before PMB started doing calipers. We upgraded the brake system to a dual circuit master from a 68+ car for safety. The rotors and pads are near new. The car has not been driven much in the last few years. It needs all 4 brake calipers rebuilt - I might be able to do this for someone to make the car drivable for transport home after a purchase. Owner was going to drive it to me for the sale but the passenger rear wheel became very hot after a short trip - indicating a stuck caliper. I rotated the wheels and confirmed 2 calipers are sticky.
Steering coupler - the steering is slightly loose. When the wheel is rocked back and forth you can feel some slop - this tells me that the rubber coupler to the rack and pinion is worn out.
it is a great quality car but it hasn’t been driven much in the last 10 years. My friend the owner is going to travel the world with his wife so he has decided to let his family’s Porsche 912 go since he does not use it enough and will not be residing in USA for the coming years. If you coming from Instagram then you know the usual quality of my cars. I have had a good response on my post so be warned - I’m not in the mood for nonsense or people seeking a great deal. I think I’d feather sell this to an end user rather than a dealer. Also remember this car is as is, zero warranty but it will be fantastic when you fix the small issues it has.
The car is in my shop now, north county San Diego area. I am out of town at the time of this ad posting but will be back last week of February.
You cannot beat this fantastic original color with a recent quality repaint.
