The first generation of the 911 is what everything that we know of Porsche today was built from. When the 911 was first introduced it had a massive complex and powerful engine for its day but it also carried a price tag two thousand more than the 356 predecessors. Many people were reluctant to buy the 911 because of this large price difference so the 912 was introduced which sold very well at similar pricing to the 356. What people eventually saw was Porsche started winning many professional racing events with their new 6cylinder and this new 6 cylinder was very powerful and reliable. By 1969 the 911 had finally caught on and buyers saw the value in the large 6 cylinder, it was only at this time did the 911 become the dominant seller of the Porsche line, before that it was the 912. Since initial sales were low the examples of first generation 911 cars are very few and far between, on top of this the introduction of the 911T 911E and 911S focused people’s attention on the long wheel base cars. Over the years many of these first generation short wheel base 911s were looked over or forgotten about, values were very low, many were cannibalized for body and power train modifications. All this severely hurt the number of good original examples left in the world. Flash forward 46 years and the Porsche 911 is now a household name with significant history behind the model. Collectors and enthusiasts now take a very keen interest in the first generation of the most well known German sports car in the entire world. Trouble is there are almost no original examples of a short wheel base 911 left.

It is very rare to find a short wheel base Porsche 911 in this condition; it has never been customized or modified. All parts and body panels are original to the car, it was not pieced together. The car has never experienced any rust and it has never been stored outside, the only corrosion ever was from the very common rusty battery tray/suspension pan which was recently professionally repaired. This car has lived most of its life in Redondo Beach California in an enclosed garage. The story from the owners is – 1st owner purchased the car new in the Redondo Beach area of Los Angeles and kept the car for approximately 30 years and put around 70,000 original miles on it. The second owner also from Redondo Beach owned the car for 9 years and then sold it to his friend in Fallbrook California who was the 3rd owner. Today the car has a believed to be original 95,000 miles on it.

This car is an investment grade, very drivable early 911, in excellent condition. The engine number is matching to the car as is the original 4 speed transmission (included with the car but not installed, the car currently has a 5 speed installed). Approximately 20,000 miles ago the second owner had the engine fully rebuilt by Dutch Treat of Redondo Beach CA. Around this time a new clutch with new flywheel was also installed. Looking over the car one can see that front ball joints, tie rods, and Bilstien shocks were added at some point in recent history. In 2008 the second owner brought the car to West Coast Specialties in San Diego California for a complete paint job. WCS is the local bodyshop for Pioneer Porsche, the San Diego dealer. After the paint was completed the car was re-assembled using all new rubber seals, new front windshield, and many new trim pieces were installed. After the exterior body was completed the interior was done by Euro Trim of San Diego California where all interior vinyl surfaces were recovered using correct German leatherette. In August 2010 the car was brought to Vintage Excellence of Vista California where a complete service and cosmetic detailing of the engine was completed. This car drives straight and quiet, no rattles, the engine is solid and reliable. This car now only needs a loving new owner, not a restoration shop.
